Openings are used at the beginning of shows, and occasionally throughout a show, to brainstorm and generate a wide variety of fun information to use during the scenes that follow. This information could be a word, something that inspires object work, or even an entire line of dialogue, much like we use in First Line Last Line scene warmups. As the opening is going on, try to pick one thing from it to put in your back pocket and use to initiate a scene later on.
The opening is for the troupe, however it is usually entertaining to the audience.
There are an infinite number of openings and you can even create your own. Below is a list of common improv show openings along with instructions.

You can use your First Scene as an opening. This is particularly great when the troupe has a limited amount of time.
